The Alpilles and the Camargue
Located 50 minutes away from the Luberon Lub'heureux holiday rentals, pleasant walks in the Alpilles and its famous sites. The hilltop village of Baux-de-Provence and the cultural site of Carrières de Lumières where you can attend immersive art exhibitions (fantastic!). Saint-Rémy de Provence, its shopping streets, its pleasant restaurants, and its Estrine museum installed in a beautiful private mansion where you can admire temporary and permanent collections, including the Vincent Van Gogh Interpretation Center and the Pierre Bergé collection. Closeby, the ancient city of Glanum is unexpected: you can admire an oppidum with many Roman vestiges evoking the imperial forums of Rome: mausoleum and triumphal arch, columns, stelae, ruins of houses, paved path, portico, thermal baths, fountain, battlements. The town of Glanum also has a religious sanctuary around a sacred spring.
The city of Arles, further south, can be reached in 1.5 hours by car from the villa Luberon Lub'heureux. Arles is a city of art and history, classified by UNESCO as World Heritage of Humanity for three reasons:1) for its old center and all of its Roman and Romanesque monuments (including the great arenas), 2) as the Way of St. James, 3) as a natural area of world interest: Camargue. Each year (with the exception of COVID in 2020), the famous international photography festival takes place: the meetings of Arles. The Vincent Van Gogh Foundation is also located there.
The Camargue, registered in the world network of Biosphere Reserves, will take you into a unique and magical universe. Walks among flamingos, horses, and ponds, salt marshes, rice crops, to Saintes-Maries-de-la Mer.
